Our Committees

Fund Development – Designs and implements annual fundraising plans that will generate funds to support the mission of Preservation Durham. Its goals are to:

  • Expand sponsorships and corporate support
  • Seek and increase grants and foundation contributions
  • Grow membership
  • Maximize Board and major donor contributions
  • Earn income from annual/special events

Chair: Josh Parker

 

Organizational Visibility – Increases community awareness by promoting mission through educational activities and programs. Its goals are to:

  • Sponsor educational and entertaining activities for Preservation Durham members, friends and the community at large
  • Broaden community support and awareness of historic preservation
  • Communicate with the Preservation Durham membership community
  • Evaluate existing programs and activities

Chair: Liz Sappenfield

 

Advocacy – Advocates issues of major importance to Durham. Its goals are to:

  • Identify key issues and recommend position statements for board approval
  • Work with other organizations in supporting or opposing issues of mutual interest
  • Represent interests of Preservation Durham
  • Review local ordinances concerning historic preservation
  • Promote annual awards program

Chair: Sara Davis Lachenman

 

Endangered Properties Program – Identifies, acquires, and markets for historic rehabilitation endangered properties. It’s goals are to:

  • Educate the people of Durham on both an individual and community level as to the benefits of historic preservation and of the conservation of Durham’s unique architectural styles
  • Identify potentially threatened properties that contribute to a neighborhood’s history and character or possess sufficient architectural merit to warrant efforts to ensure their preservation
  • Motivate people in possession of identified properties to renovate and preserve their buildings or locate motivated individuals to purchase, renovate and preserve those properties
  • Connect preservation-minded individuals with properties by whatever educational, financial, and legal means are at the committee’s disposal.
